About My Practice

Hello, my name is Zack Wilkins and I’m a therapist in Portland Maine. The name SITS Counseling comes from the belief that Sitting In The Suck is a crucial part in the healing journey. It takes both courage on the clients part and skill from the therapist to understand the trauma and begin to grow. Our journey together will move you away from the burden you are feeling today and toward a more peaceful and full existence.

Who I Work With

While I see many clients experiencing a wide range of issues, I specialize in working with individuals experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, emotional numbness, trust issues, childhood wounds, grief, a harsh inner critic, self-harm, thoughts of suicide, PTSD, and feelings of hopelessness all relating to past trauma.

My clients feel stuck, trapped, or weighed down and struggle to cope with their difficult thoughts and feelings. They are looking for someone to support them in untangling the mess inside their heads and to help relieve the struggle they have been facing for too long.

How I Work

My approach is to sit with you so that I can truly understand your experience. My framework is non-pathologizing and operates from the belief that what you are experiencing doesn’t mean something is wrong with you, but rather it makes perfect sense based on your history. I excel at determining what is holding you back, as well as what is going to drive you forward. Using an IFS-informed lens, we will explore different parts of you that are stuck in the past. These parts often formed at a young age due to one or many traumatic experiences.
